My Vivid Nightmare

There i was in the abandoned barn , I looked down to my watch and it read 3:50 a.m. I had no idea how much more time I had to get away. It seemed as if they came out and attacked every five minutes. I checked my weapon and realized i was running low on ammo. I searched the floor in desperate need of any ammo, and came across a box full of it. I shoved the box inside my jacket pocket and ran out of the barn. I ran as fast as I could through a field of tall grass. I feared if I made any loud noises they would hear me and attack. I felt so paranoid and afraid I broke into a sweat. Ahead in the distance I seen an abandoned hospital and sprinted toward it with extreme haste. The doors were wide open and I walked in to find dead bodies everywhere. Horrified at the sight of these innocent people, I darted towards the staircase. As I descended up the stairs I reeled over from exhaustion, quickly realizing that all this running was getting to me. I had not eaten a single thing in over upstairs for   three days and my stomach was making me perfectly aware of it. Driven by this insatiable hunger I scoured something to eat and eventually came across a small break room with some leftover cans of food still preserved within the cabinets. I continued searching through these cabinets when suddenly I heard a noise coming from behind a counter. As I was silently tiptoeing toward to where I heard the noise with my gun at the ready, I heard a soft voice.

“Hello? Are you a human?” the voice asked.
“Yes! Yes I am! Where are you? I asked impatiently.
A light flashed in my face as the girl came out from behind the counter.
“Ok , I had to make sure you weren't one of them , unless you are? she said , pointing her gun at me indecisively.
“No ! No! Look my name is Daniel Rivas and im just trying to escape this place! Please, can you help? Do you know anywhere I can hide? I asked.

“No , I actually don't. My name’s Valerie Nencio but you can call me Val. I swear these zombies are coming out of no where so if I can trust you , and if you want to trust me , lets get out of here. Like now.” she said.

We ran out of the hospital in desperate need of somewhere to hide when something grabbed my leg , I panicked and fell straight on my face. I screamed to Val for help and get me up but she was already taking care of it. She pulled out her weapon and shot the zombie twice. Once in the head and another in the heart.

“These bastards have no heart but I still like to get the satisfaction as if I’m really hurting them.” she explained.
“Thank you Val! I didn't even see that thing. You're right, they do come out of no where. This is so crazy!” I explained as we headed toward what seemed to be an abandoned church.
“ Dont sweat it Danny! You got my back , I got yours. We got to be a team. These bastards don't know what's coming.” she said confidently.

I looked at her and instantly thought of my wife Angie and how terrible I felt for leaving her in the house when the attack started earlier this morning. I promised her I would come back and get her and I was going to keep that promise. She was my everything and even though our relationship was a mess I still
felt like I was responsible for protecting her. I tried to wrap my mind around why I left her to fend for herself but I only had one thing on my mind and that was to kill. Leaving her in the attic, I thought was a good idea because it would be harder for them to find her. Thinking about Angie only made me want to fight harder to get back to her. We set out for our destination across our deserted town with our guards up at the slightest sound. Tirelessly shooting every inhuman thing that approached us. We made our way to the end of the town and believed to have killed the entire race of these wild beasts’ so we took the opportunity to take a quick break of some kind. Val had a small canteen that was half way full with water. I took a sit on the filthy floor as Val remained standing. I asked her to pass the canteen to me and I reached my arm out to her; she took a long drink and passed it to me. I asked her if she had a family and she replied

“Yes, they have all been savagely killed by the zombies” I bowed my head in sadness and she said her mother had turned into a zombie and that she had no choice but to shoot her. Instantly I felt her pain, she teared up while telling me this. She almost automatically snapped out of her emotions and wiped her tears. I stood up and embraced her with a firm hug her hair smelled of sulfur and wild berries. I couldn’t help but to imagine that i had my arms around Angie. This made me sad. We stayed in each others arms for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly, Val was being ripped out of my arms and onto the ground. I immediately pulled out my gun and as she struggled to fight off the zombie I shot that bastard in the head. I helped Val up off the floor and asked her if she was ok. She was definitely shaken up but she continued to run with me. She was breathing loudly and coughing deep she asked if we could stop for a minute so she could catch her breath. Val stood there hunched down with her hands on her knees breathing profusely. I stood there gripping my weapon ready for anything. I wondered how many more zombies were left. I wasn’t sure how much longer I would be able to fight. This battle seemed a little bit easier with a partner. “I really hope shes gonna be alright”, I thought to myself. I looked back at Val to make sure she was okay. She finally caught her breath and was now breathing at a normal pace, this kind of assured me that she would be fine. I told her to drink the rest of the water and not to worry,  that we will find some more along the way. She gulped it down without hesitation. We finally reached a wooded area which i was extremely frightened to enter. I knew we had to pass this area to get to a safe haven. We had enough ammo for battle and enough energy to survive. With Val besides me we raced through the woods. I suddenly felt a strong breeze and a drop of water touch my arm. I was hoping it would only sprinkle considering the fact that we had to still make it through the night and having it rain would be a huge pain in the ass. As we were running through the woods, Val’s foot got caught in a mud puddle and fell ; I turned around and saw a dog headed towards us with viscous eyes ready to attack and a mouth full of razor blade teeth. I quickly pulled out my gun and aimed it at the dog before it came any closer to us , Val was struggling to get up because she sprained her ankle when she fell but I couldn't help her. She forced herself up while I shot the viscous zombie dog dead. I shot it twice and watched its body collapsed. The first bullet hit him in the stomach and the second bullet struck his head. I was positive that the gruesome beast wouldn’t get back up. Val was already running and I was trying to catch up with her when all of a sudden she stopped running and turned around as if I called her name. She had a strange look in her eyes, as if she was mad at the world. I stopped and stared with a confused look on my face and before I knew it Val was on top of me attacking my body. She sank her teeth into my skin and viciously ripped it apart  from every angle possible making sure I was unable to get up and fight back. At that moment all I could think about was my wife and if she made it out that stupid attic that I left her in and how stupid I was to trust this random girl I met. I laid helplessly in my own puddle of blood and my flesh ripped into shreds. I could feel the pressure of the pouring rain washing away the blood of every cut on my body. I knew this was the end as I took my last breaths of air and at that moment I opened my eyes only to find myself laying down in the corner of the abandoned barn yard with my loaded gun on my chest ready to be fired and a zombie trying to break the doors of the abandoned barn.

The reason why i was inspired to write this was because I do honestly believe violent video games impact the lives of their players and seem to cause violent and distructive behavior.
