Bleeding out
This is not how I expected how today would of gone. I’m in the cold, on the asphalt road, bleeding out slowly. But i think I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start at the beginning. Its was a normal Thursday morning, I did my usual routine, you know get up, brush my teeth, yata yata yata. I went to work, nothing unusual there. So when I got to work, I was told to go into my boss's office. See, I work a sa telemarketer, so I sell stuff over the phone. But in the past few months, the company has been on a downhill slope, and a very steep one at that. We have been laying off people practically every week, and not just any day, pertically on ‘go home thursday.’ me and my co-workers have noticed that on thursday our boss has been telling people to go home early, and we really didn't think much of it, until our friend, Miles was told to go home early. Then the next day we didn't see him, so when we asked what happened, he said that he got called by our boss and got fired. Then that's when we noticed the pattern, every thursday if someone got told to go home we would know they would get fired. And hence the name ‘go home thursday.’
That’s why being called into the boss's office was a dreadful thing, and why I feared it. Now as a telemarketer I can be very persuasive and persistent, and with that skill I could work as anyone who needs to sell stuff. But little did I know that would be my downfall. I knew I couldn't risk it. I was on a tight schedule. See I need to get enough money to go to dallas and start a business there with my brother. We had a plot of land that a guy would sell us there if we got the money with 3 months. It already been 2 and ½ so we had less that 2 weeks to get it. And I am very close to covering it. I need at least one more payday to go by and I'm out of here. So I would try my best to keep this job. So, when I walked into the office I made sure to be as non-fireable as possible, if that's even a thing.
“Sir, you wanted to see me?”
“Yes, I have noticed that you have meet your quota for the past few weeks straight, and I would like to have you work a bit later than usual.” said a rather older looking man.
After hearing these words, I felt a sense of relief. But the thing is I couldn't work late. I have an appointment for my dog at 6, and I really need to get its shots or I can't keep him in my apartment. I was torn between my dog or my job, but the job is more important right now since I will leave to got to dallas in a week.
“Of course, I will be happy to work late.”
“Excellent that's what we wanted to hear. Not what that ellIot had to say, with his lies.”
“Lies, sir?”
“Yes, I asked him the same thing, but he said that he had something with his fat wife about a shower and babies he promised her. He doesn't even have a baby. HAHA, thats a lie if I heard one! Anyways I told him to got home early and tend to that if he has to.”
“But sir his wife is pregnant and is hav-”
“Hmm, say that again I didn't quite hear that.”
“Nothing sir, if that's all I can get to work.”
“One last thing, umm what is it? Oh yes, you will be paid overtime. Also what's the thing we are selling?”
“Um the warranty on the TVs, it's a 3 year plan and those who have it expire we call them and-”
“Oh yes, yes, yes. I remember now go to that.”
I never took the time to get to know my boss. All I know is what my co-workers told me and what I learned on our, what was supposed to be, company ‘bonding‘ trip, but that's a tale for another time.
Where was I? Oh yea, I was coming out of my bosses offIce and back to my workstation when I saw Elliot’s workstation and he was nowhere to be seen. After powering through the hours it was finally over and I was able to go home. With the extra time payment, I will surely be able to leave for dallas after this week. After leaving work it was 6:36PM, which meant I missed my dog's appointment, and I knew I wouldn't have time to cook dinner and do all the other stuff necessary for my move. So I made the decision to get fast food to take home. I ended up doing to a chinese place near my work and while I was ordering my brother called me.
“Hey Brad! Guess what!”
“What? What happened?”
“The guy selling the land, I heard that he might need the money now, so he lowered the price buy ALOT and I mean enough that we could buy it right now!”
“REALLY! I can't believe it oh my god! Oh my god! Really?”
“Well i'm not sure i'm going to see if it's true. Ill text you if it is ok?”
“Yea, if this is true it solves a lot of problems! Ok text me then.”
“Ok I will see you.”
Once my order was done I got in my car and put my phone in the seat next to me, then I hurried home. I could not believe this, if it is true then I can leave right now and get out of this place! About a good 10 minutes into my drive home I get a notification on my phone, but it was face down and I couldn't see it. I look at the road and I see an empty, straight road, and I think to myself I can have a look. When I reach over I swerve to the right and but and put my attention to the road again. But not knowing whether it could be that the guy is selling it for a cheaper price is true or not, urged my to check. So I reached for it and say the words in all capital letters, IT'S TRUE! In my happiness, I was not paying attention and swerver straight into a the right guardrail and crashed.
“And that's how I got into the crash and started bleeding out.”
“Well, umm thanks I guess, I mean was the ENTIRE story nesseasy?” said a middle aged police officer, holding a notepad.
“Well you did say be specific.”
“Well I meant anything that directly caused the crash and your not bleeding out it's just minor injuries.”
“In a way, didnt everything cause the crash?”
“Not really.”
“I like the story.” said a paramedic while trying to help me.
“I was nice to know how-”
“Do you job. And let me do mine, ok?” Interrupted the officer
“Fine jeez.” says the paramedic with a surprised voice.
“Oh yea, I forgot about and important part in the story where I-”
“Ok i'm done, someone else help this guy.” as the officer leaves.
“What's wrong with that guy?”
The paramedic shrugged at me and get back to doing what he was doing, and that's how I got here, but the good part is that after I'm don’t here I'm going to dallas and starting a company with my brother.

The author's comments:

I originally wrote this for my open mic, in my creative writing class and thought i was ok to revise and submit, and I'm pretty happy how it turned out. This is a realistic fiction story about a man named Brad and how he got into a the situation he's currently in, which if you haven't guessed by the title, he's bleeding out or so we think.
