Rainbows=Gay?

Let me just say this: I'm completely straight. I'ma chick and I like dudes.
When people ask me what my favorite color is, I say "The Rainbow".
Why?
Because I like all colors. I can't say I only like one color.
(Even though "The Rainbow" is not really a color)
But, when I say I like rainbows or I wear rainbows
I get the same question: "Are you a lesbian?"
My answer: "No.I can't like rainbows without being gay?"
My question is: What's people's deals with asuming rainbows comes
a gay person?
One word: Stereotyping.
One word I don't like to use. I hate being labled or stereotyped.
Just because a person likes or wears rainbows doesn't automatically
mean they are gay. I mean, they could be, but who are you to make
that assumption?
But, another reason I wear rainbows is that iSUPPORT GLTB people.
I don't see why people are so close-minded about gay people.
Are they really that bad?
From what I know, No, they aren't that bad.
My friend is Bi-Sexual.
Yeah, I have to admit, it's cool checkin' out guys with him.
Getting his opinion on things and seeing things from his point of veiw.
But, don't make up your mind about someone because of the clothes they wear,
where they come from, their sexual orientation, ect.
You're not giving them a chance at life.
Let them be them.
As in the words of Michael Jackson:
"Before you judge me, try hard to love me."

I love this! LGBTQ+ folks are stereotyped into wearing rainbows (even though most of us don´t on a regular basis). Even though the rainbow flag is a symbol of pride, that doesn´t mean cishet people can´t wear it! Also, love the quote!

I agree!! Discrimination in the face of gays is just sad. I love to hang out with everyone, I don't care about their perspectives. they love who they are and I accept it. if someone else I talk to can't accept it, then i can't accept them. @Kendra1

This is very true and I admit that I have also done this type of 'stereotyping' in the past. But now I've read this article and I agree: it's the same as when my mother tells me: "don't sit like that, that's how men sit! Cross your legs like a girl." It doesn't anger me as I'm used to it, but it has caused self-consiousness. And that's what's so bad about stereotyping, not letting people be themselves. Great article~

that happens to me when I wear Vans or guys' jackets. Its so annoying!  Rainbow is only the gay rights colors, but it shouldnt mean you are gay!

besides, why does it even matter if you are gay?

rainbow is the gay rights colors, btu wearing colors shouldn't make you gay.

I like to wear black, green, and blue, so i dont know what that feels exactly like, but people ask me if i am lesbian when i wear guy jackets and Vans.  It really annoys me so i kinda know what you are talking about

You got enemies? Good, means you stood up for something you care about.

Same here, I love reading comments and things like this, cause it tells me that not everyone is homophobic, and some people go threw similiar things.

it's stereotyping, but not NEGATIVE stereotyping. actually, it's called support. :)

Well, seeing rainbows as equaling g.ay rights isn't really a stereotype because rainbows are the g.ay rights symbol, and the rainbow flag is the g.ay rights flag. I agree that it shouldn't mean that you yourself are g.ay, but I think that it's fair that we have something that symbolizes pride.

I agree. It doesnt matter what other people are we should all be open to new ideas and views because this world is diverse. I love your connection with rainbow because it symbolizes the unity of all people together which piggybacks on your openmindedness.
