The Lie
As I rushed to the ER,
A sinking feeling overtook me.
As I looked up I saw my father,
it was the first time I had seen
a grown man cry like a child,
and I felt a sting in my heart
and I knew that the prognosis wasn’t good
but I swallowed my fear
and despite my pain,
I assured him that everything would be okay.

I wrote this poem for a school assignment. I really like how it turned out. The school assignment was to write a poem using borrowed texts.
Lines borrowed from A Long Way Gone.
