Double Identity
I stride through the waves of Peru.
People look at me and they see straight through.
They see white but we share the same roots.
They judge me on the color of my skin.
As they hear my spanish accent
Their looks all meet.
I celebrate their traditions
I follow their culture
“Somos iguales”.
We sit down at the table to eat
They now understand, we share the same blood.
“Don’t judge on looks,” now let's dig in.

I am part Peruvian, so this is a poem about a time I was judged.
