The Mask
As I stand, observing the crowd
Looking into their eyes
I see so many joyful faces
So many prevalent lies
They never take it off
No matter the time or task
But what’s underneath?
Beneath that virulent mask
But as life goes on
As I rise with the tide
I soon begin to see
That even I have eccentricity to hide
I know now that the mask
Is not to deceive and lie
It is a form of protection
A way to avoid the prying eye
As I stand among the crowd
Joined by that invisible tether
We can never be completely honest
But we can wear our masks together
