Bright Deafness
The energy in the room,
The silence of the voices,
The lightly taken footsteps,
Deafen even the brightest minds.
Awaken, oh deaf one,
Rise to face the world,
For today you will make choices,
As all bright minds do.
Go to your work,
Study at the school,
Realize your potential,
No matter the age.
Society sees you, deaf one,
As does the universe,
For to hide oneself is trivial,
Bright one, shine for us.
Eventually the day shall end,
You believe your deafness gone,
But one more sound is to be missed,
One soft, soft sound.
The breath of your lover,
A cry from your child,
Warming purr of your cat,
Your head lying down on your pillow.
