The Ugly Duckling
He looked at them with blood shot eyes.
They ran with smiles on their faces.
He sat in the corner alone.
Every laugh was a needle though his heart.
He asked to play and they said no.
The red ball they passed back and forth mocked him.
He wanted a red ball.
He cried and they laughed.
He had never felt so alone.
He couldn’t stand their happiness and friendship.
All he wanted was one friend.
No one could take the blame for the boy’s depression.
But everyone who didn’t invite him to play is at fault.
All of us, everyone, can be to blame.
