Birthday cake
The memory is more vivid than the picture
I can almost feel the heat of the candles and warm love around me
Standing on stool just to be able to see my cake and blow out the candles
I can feel my mother’s hand touch my shoulder
It’s like she’s almost with me now
I miss her, and tears well up in my eyes
But just as she held me in the picture, she’s holding me now
Making me feel her warmth again
And I smile, knowing she will be with me always
