Born into a bright and colorful world
Bursting with brilliant blues, vibrant reds and deep oranges
Without boundaries
Without limitations of what to say or who you may talk to.
No one acknowledging your mistakes as purposeful
Rather as a side effect of innocence

I feel as if beauty is often mistaken for physical appearance.
Pretty.
Symmetrical.
The first layer effect on a person.
We lack depth.

No.

The ability to see depth.
To take time to strip back the layers
in this fast paced world.
“Wake up and stop dreaming,” they say
So you face forward, walk straight
Never look back

I say wake up and chase your dreams.

The fantasizers, the outcasts.
Geniuses and philosophers.
Restrained to the answers of their own mind.
Afraid to ask questions that no one will.

From day one we’re told to stand in a line.
Shake hands and meet eyes with fake smiles.

Dare we stray?

What if your smile was your identity?
Could a hug substitute a handshake?
You meet so many people once.
Just once.
Why waste a first impression with decent etiquette?
Is to differ such a profound sin?
To capture every moment in our mind’s eye?
To let someone slip through your fingers.

Losing someone hurts.
I know.
Grief could very well be the most painful feeling
But is it really an emotion?

As Einstein once said,
“Cold does not exist.
According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold
is in reality the absence of heat.
Darkness does not exist either.
Darkness is, in reality, the absence of light.”
Or could it be explained by the absence of love?
No warm embrace from a dear friend.
The last impression you never thought could be… well…
The last.

We’re always zipping past the present at the speed of time.
Never taking time to stop.
To stop.
To simply stop.

To sit back and watch all the wonderful things waltz by in slow motion.
Seek and exert depth.
Love another as you hope someone does for you.
And maybe.
Just maybe.
You will find those brilliant colors in this grayscale world.
