Angel
The first time I saw you
You were such a tiny thing
I couldn’t believe you were a person
who would walk and talk like me
I came up with a few things
that you still enjoy
like treasure hunting and moon-tanning
and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
“Now you’re practically grown up,” they say
“Now that you’re 10.”
Only my angel would say
“No, I’m nine again!”
Semaiah, my little cousin,
Now that we’re both people,
How about we see the world?
Just a ginger and her angel,
Fifteen and second-nine.
